Grief has a reputation for moving in tidy stages. In real life it doesn't. It shows up in the cereal aisle. It goes quiet for months, then knocks you flat on a birthday. Some days you feel fine, and then you feel guilty for feeling fine.

You don't have to be falling apart to come in. Plenty of people start grief counseling because they're holding it together for everyone else and have nowhere to put it down.

Losses we help with

Grief comes in more shapes than people expect.

  • Death of a parent
  • Death of a partner
  • Losing a child
  • Sudden or traumatic loss
  • Suicide loss
  • Pregnancy loss
  • Divorce and breakups
  • Estrangement
  • Losing a pet
  • Loss of health or ability
  • Military and line-of-duty loss

Anticipatory grief counts too: watching someone you love decline, and grieving them while they're still here.

How we work with grief

Not a timeline. A place to put it.

We won't tell you how long this should take or hand you a checklist. Early on, the work is often just making room: saying the things you can't say at home, remembering the person out loud, being angry or relieved or numb without anyone flinching.

Over time we look at what the loss has changed. Your routines, your relationships, who you are without them. Grief doesn't end so much as it gets woven in, and you get your footing back.

When grief gets stuck

Sometimes a loss is tangled up with trauma. A sudden death, a hospital scene you can't stop replaying, a goodbye that never happened. When the memories keep intruding, EMDR can help them settle so you can grieve the person instead of reliving the worst day.

Who you'd work with

Ebony Trotter, LPC works with grief and loss for teens and adults. For traumatic loss, Katie Fortunato, LPC offers EMDR. For grieving kids, Alissa Brown, LPCC uses play and conversation to help them work through what they can't yet put into words.

You don't have to carry it alone.
