Colorado Springs is a military town. Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, Cheyenne Mountain, the Air Force Academy. A lot of families here are either just arriving or already counting down to the next set of orders.
Military life asks families to be flexible over and over, usually without much warning. A parent leaves for nine months and the household reorganizes around the gap. Then they come home and everyone has to reorganize again. Kids learn to make friends fast and say goodbye faster. Spouses put careers on hold. Everyone gets good at looking fine.
We're an off-post private practice on North Weber Street, north of downtown. Some families come to us because they want someone outside the chain of command. Others have used on-post programs and want something longer-term, or a therapist who can see a child and a parent in the same practice.

They adapt well. That doesn't mean it's easy.
Military-connected kids are often praised for being resilient, and many are. They can also get so used to adjusting that nobody notices when they're struggling. It might show up as trouble at a new school, meltdowns in the weeks before a parent leaves, or a teenager who stops investing in friendships because what's the point.
Alissa Brown, LPCC started her career in schools working with military-connected families, and it's still at the center of her work. She sees children, teens, and parents, and uses play-based approaches with younger kids who don't have the words yet. More on how we work with young people on our child and teen therapy page.
For service members and spouses
Adults in military families are welcome too, together or on their own. When deployment left something heavier behind, trauma therapy and EMDR with Katie are available in person or online anywhere in Colorado.
About cost
We don't take TRICARE at this time. We are in-network with Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Health First Colorado (Medicaid), and many families use out-of-network benefits or our sliding scale. Sessions with Alissa are offered at a reduced rate, and a sliding scale is available. See rates and insurance for specifics.
