A lot of people who call us don't use the word trauma at first. They say they're jumpy. Or numb. Or that they lose whole afternoons and can't say where they went. They tell us nothing that bad happened to them, then describe a childhood where they learned to read the room before they learned to read.

You don't need a diagnosis or a single dramatic event to belong here. If something taught your nervous system that the world isn't safe, and it never got the message that things changed, that's what we work on.

Our office is on North Weber Street, just north of downtown Colorado Springs. If driving in isn't realistic, the same work happens over video anywhere in Colorado.

How we work

Stabilize first. Then go deeper.

Good trauma therapy has an order to it. We build steadiness and trust before we touch anything heavy.

Early sessions are about knowing your warning signs, what brings you back when you drift, and what your system needs to stay present. Once there's enough ground under you, we start working with the memories and patterns themselves. Sometimes that's EMDR. Sometimes it's parts work, getting to know the protective sides of you that took over when they had to. Often it's both.

What people bring

Some of what we see most often.

Complex and childhood trauma

Years of walking on eggshells, emotional neglect, a parent who was sometimes safe and sometimes not. This kind of trauma shapes how you relate to everyone, including yourself. It usually takes longer than a single-incident case, and that's okay.

PTSD after a specific event

A car accident, an assault, a medical emergency, a deployment. The memory feels like it's still happening instead of something that already happened. This is where EMDR tends to do its clearest work.

Dissociation

Feeling far away from your life, losing time, or noticing that different parts of you want very different things. This is a focus of Katie's work. We go slowly, and we don't treat dissociation as something to push through. It kept you safe once.

The body keeping score

Tight chest, shallow breathing, a startle that won't quit, a stomach that knows before you do. We pay attention to what shows up physically, not only to the story.
